Running a tech company with a lot of moving parts is hard work.
People to manage, personalities, code to review, versions to test, customer support, user onboarding improvements, digital marketing, blah blah blah blah.
There’s so many things that you need to do, consider or know about. That’s why you have partners though.
My advice when picking partners is simple, they need to be able to support what you do and handle things that you just cannot do.
It’s a balance. Everybody has their strengths and weaknesses.
Your partners should have your back. They should understand how you work, your personality but at the same time, you give that same respect to them.
Sure, we’ve all heard of stories of how other founders just stabbed other founders in the back. There’s really nothing you can do about that. Things happen. I don’t know what got them to that point. Perhaps they could have prevented it before it got to that point, I don’t know. I’m not going to tell you to put everything in writing. That’s up to you.
Your goals for the company should be aligned and clear. Your issues and weaknesses should be clear to your partners as well. If you see an issue or something that could lead to it, call it out as early as possible. Communication is key to identifying things early.
Focus on the goals of the company and build that culture as it starts from the top down.
